5 Easy Steps To Use Brisbane Map

in Guide

I love exploring Brisbane suburbs. Most of the time, I am lucky to get a ride in friend’s car. Most likely, they own a GPS system. And problem solved. I’ll get to my destination without fuss. But, there are cases where GPS are no working, or you have to reroute due to road close/construction. At that situation, you only have one choice – reading the Brisbane Maps.

By reading this guide, you can easily learn the steps of handling the map quickly, so you won’t miss the next motorway exit. From my personal experience, I learn from mistakes. And I certainly do not want to repeat the mistakes. Being the person who dislike driving, I am usually the person who is in charge of holding the map.

So, in order for me to minimize my mistakes, I drafted up a guide to share with you.

1) Confirm the address
As easy at it seems, it is always good to have everything prepared before any journey. A short drive to university or friend’s house, or longer distance to Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast. You need to confirm the address is correct because it matters when things go wrong (e.g. GPS not working). Checking up a map online is really easy nowadays. Plenty of maps are provided online, such as ourbrisbane.com and mapit.com.au. My favourite one has to be Google Map.

2) Learn to read address
Example, I am searching for this address:

397 Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill QLD 4000

397 is the unit number.
Gregory Terrace is the street name. Search for street name!
Spring Hill is area name.
QLD is Queensland.
4000 is postcode.

Flip to the back of the book and look for the street name according to the alphabetical order. A-Z.

Tips: Spot the street name. You are not recommended to search from area name to street name. You always start from the street name. Remember.

Learn to differentiate the acronyms for each of the street. Such as Av (Avenue), St(Street), Rd(Road) and Tc(Terrace).

3) Go to “zone” or pages
Look for the following details:

Page number; X coordiante and Y coordinate

And go to the indicated page, and search for the coordinate.

4) Find your exact destination
When you found your exact destination (don’t worry about the unit number yet), look for the nearest route to main road. Brisbane Map usually highlight these road with bright yellow. Follow the route to the nearest motorway.

5) Nearest route to express motorway
The motorway are usually highlighted in green colour. Spot your way from main road to motorway. Check which exits you should take. This usually won’t take much effort. Not many motorways for you to choose from anyway. Pacific Motorway and Ipswich motorway are the most frequent one. Here is a general guide on which exit you should take. Brisbane Maps usually includes these, so you don’t have worry that much.
