If your coming for a holiday or study in Brisbane, the easiest way to get about the city is using public transport. This avoids expensive car parking and allows you to make the most of the city.

Brisbane has a suburban rail network, a fast an efficient ferry fleet on the Brisbane river known as the Citycats as well as buses through all major suburbs

TransLink is public transport authority provided by The Queensland Government. Their services spans across South East Queensland. That means you can travel to Gold Coast with public transport.

TransLink provide three types of public transport in Brisbane.

Bus

Bus is the most common public transport available to the public. You can reach almost any destination within South East Queensland with bus. Busways are dedicated bus corridors completely separate to the normal roads so their is no congestion.

Rail

The TransLink / Queensland rail network has a number of routes from the city and connects with Brisbane airport and the Gold Coast. It’s not a metro type system so there is only one station in the CBD. Therefore it’s best for slightly longer trips.

Boat (Citycat and Ferries)

Obviously destinations are limited by where the river goes but here are a few ideas of what you can do on Citycat:

You can reach these uni via Citycats – QUT, UQ and Griffith

View the city from river. Amazing view during night

Let your friend know you ride boat to uni

Do the Titanic pose

Quick tip for safety

Stand back from the kerb when waiting for a bus.

Wait for the bus to stop before boarding.

Stand well back when a train approaches the station platform.

Watch out for the gap between the platform and the train.

Give way to disembarking passengers on ferries.

Wait until signalled by the ferry operator before boarding.
