I have been waiting eagerly for Lok Fook restaurant to start business. When they opened, we were so excited because we heard the chef is from another famous restaurant.
Their ads were on every local newspaper, so our expectations were high.
P/S: This post is written solely based on my own review. I do not want the chef to put poison into my soup on my next visit.
The Front End

The restaurant is air-conditioned. Whole restaurant is painted in red. Red represent “prosperity” in Chinese culture, and it’s pretty common to spot such color in Chinese restaurant.
When I arrive that place, the first impression is “wow.. red” The entrance space is not wide, and navigating around the restaurant is difficult.
I find it hard to walk around the restaurant because the space is limited, even before the peak hours. Need to give priorities to waiters, especially when they are carrying hot food.
The Ambiance

The table and chairs are Chinese style furniture. I love it. The whole ambient give the feeling of “Chinese”.

The kitchen is huge. Probably taken 1/3 space of the whole restaurant. The glass wall allows the customer to see what’s happening inside kitchen. What I noticed, the number of chef outnumbered the number of customers, lol.
By doing this, this shows that they are confident with their kitchen hygiene.
Food Review

Yang-Zhou Fried Rice - This is a simple dish where every restaurant can produce the same result. Overall taste is ok. Nothing special about it. So far I haven’t eaten any fried rice that satisfy me in Brisbane. Heh.

Dry noodle, roast pork and charsiew combination – Noodle portion is huge, nothing special about it too. The chasiew has too much fatty meat and felt like chewing whole piece of fat. Roast pork has the best portion of lean meat and fats. The meat is a bit dry, but acceptable.

Roast pork noodle soup - This is so far the best soup based noodle I had in Brisbane. Contrary to both dishes above, this soup noodle exceeded my expectation. I was expecting clear and tasteless soup, but I was wrong. The soup is thick and and delicious. On top of that, the roast pork’s crunchy skin is excellent. The fat melts in my mouth and I was suddenly in heaven.
Overall, I think the meat are not succulent enough. The charsiew and other meats are overcooked. The fat on roast pork is exception though.
Lok Fook is only opened for few days while this article being produced (mid-October 2009). They still have rooms for improvement. I think ^^;
Location

You can easily reach this place by bus (no.130). Stop at Sunnybank bank plaza and you will see this restaurant. It’s a very strategic location for students who rely on public transport.

Rating
(5.5/10) I am satisfied with my roast pork noodle soup. I personally give 7/10. However my friends gave the dishes a low rating. Hence the final rating..
Thanks for the review, I had high expectation on this restaurant too, mainly because they are putting a lot of effort into the deco, that usually means they are serious about the business, and hopefully the food and service.
Seeing your rating, I am less incline to try it out now… haha
